Notable teams - Midseason Report Cards

There are a handful of other teams that play big time ball that aren;t in the so-called "major conferences." These teams also need a good report card from time to time...

BYU - The lone loss for this BYU team, ironically, came at the hands of Florida State, who is having its worst season since joining the ACC in 1991. The Seminoles put up 54 on BYU, but the Cougars have beaten the rest by an average of . Quarterback Max Hall has 16 tds, but he also has ten interceptions. A-

TCU - The Horned Frogs sit at 6-0, including a win over my Clemson Tigers in Death Valley. That game showed me a lot about the way they did what it took to win (including missed CU field goals). Regardless, TCU has all of the respect in the world from me. Hey, you held us to kicking it rather than letting us in the end zone. TCU has also beaten what is turning out to be an ok Virginia team, and trounced Colorado State by 38. A+

Utah - I guess you could say they've won all of the ones they were supposed to, and lost the one game in which they were probably a bit overmatched. The Utes lone loss came at the hands of a steam-rolling Oregon team. They were not really challenged by any of the other five teams on the first half of their schedule. In looking at the second half slate, they should win those, as well. B

Boise State - At 6-0 and ranked #6 in the nation (4th in BCS rankings), it is certainly hard not to give this team high marks. Kellen Moore at quarterback has been very solid, throwing for over 1,400 yards and 16 touchdowns. He has just two picks on the season. THe rest of the schedule is managble, with no foreseeable losses. A+

Notre Dame - I need to give Notre Dame more credit. They are 4-2, and their only losses came on the road at Michigan on a last minute touchdown, and a close loss athome to USC last week. A shutout over Nevada, 35-0, was nice, as was the win over Michigan State. B

Houston - The Cougars started with a bang by defeating Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. In fact, the Cougars are 3-0 against the SEC/Big 12 in the first half of this year. Outside of a slip up to UTEP, Houston would have a dream season going on. They aren't an elite team, but I feel they are pretty dang solid. In looking at their schedule, I can see them winning out to go 11-1. A
