The fans have spoken. And I want to stress that they spoke before Thursday night's awards show on ESPN. Votes for these results have been coming in for over a week and a half. Tonight folks, we debut the first annual Fans25.com Fan Awards! These awards were voted on by members of the Fans25.com forum and were tallied by ASJTimm - a forum regular and a professional journalist - who contributed to this article....Without further delay, here are who the fans of Fans25.com see as the best of the best for the 2011 season!

 

Fans25.com Overall Player of the Year  

 
1. Robert Griffin III - Baylor - 23 Fans25.com points (6 first, 2 second, 1 third) - The junior completed 72 percent of his passes this year, good for almost 4,000 yards, 36 TDs through the air and only six picks. He also rushed for 644 yards and nine ground scores while leading the Bears to the verge of their first 10-win season since 1980.
2. Tyrann Matthieu, LSU - 12 (2 first, 2 second, 2 third)
3. Trent Richardson, Alabama  - 7 (1 first, 1 second, 2 third)
4. Montee Ball, Wisconsin - 6 (1 first, 1 second, 1 third)
5. Brandon Weeden, Oklahoma State - 5 (1 first, 1 second)
6. Andrew Luck, Stanford - 3 (1 second, 1 third)
7. Case Keenum, Houston - 2 (1 second)

 

Fans25.com Offensive Player of the Year


1. Monte Ball - Wisconsin - 16 Fans25.com points (2 first, 5 second) - Ball needs only two touchdowns against Oregon in the Rose Bowl to eclipse Barry Sanders' single-season record of 40. The junior also rushed for 1,749 yards this season to push the Badgers to a victory in the Big Ten's first title game.

2. Robert Griffin III, Baylor - 14 (4 first, 2 third)
3. Trent Richardson, Alabama -  8 (2 first, 1 second)
4. Andrew Luck, Stanford - 6 (1 first, 1 second, 1 third)
5. Brandon Weeden, Oklhaoma State - 3 (1 first)
6. Kellen Moore, Boise State - 2 (1 second)

 

Fans25.com Defensive Player of the year


1.Tyrann Mathieu - LSU - 26 Fans25.com points (8 first, 1 second) - The sophomore sensation's defensive prowess isn't about any one thing he does well. It's about all the things he just does right, from leading one of the nation's top defenses with 70 tackles, to two interceptions, to even getting in on the pass rush with 1.5 sacks.

2. Luke Keuchly, Boston College - 12 (2 first, 3 second)
3. David Amerson, NC State -  5 (1 second, 3 third)
4. Dont'a Hightower, Alabama - 4 (4 third)
5. Courtney Upshaw - 3, Alabama -  (1 first)

 

Fans25.com Lineman of the Year


T1. Whitney Mercilus - Illinois- 10 Fans25.com points (3 first, 1 third) - Even though Illinois isn't a marquee program, there's no questioning 14.5 sacks. Considering the premium NFL teams put on the pass rush and how easily his last name transitions to the nickname "Merciless," Whitney could have a lucrative career ahead of him.

Fans25.com Special Teams Player of the Year


1. Tyrann Matthieu - LSU 17 Fans25.com points -(4 first, 2 second, 1 third) - Honey Badger takes what he wants, including all the momentum in the SEC title game with a 62-yard punt return TD. That has been Mathieu's gift all year, making a big play when needed.

2. De'Anthony Thomas, Oregon -  7 (2 first, 1 third)
3. Randy Bullock, Texas A&M -  6 (2 first)


Fans25.com Freshman of the Year


1. Sammy Watkins - Clemson25 Fans25.com points (7 first, 2 second) - Sammy set the ACC world on fire during the Tigers' 8-0 start and even got some early Heisman love. With 1,153 receiving yards, 11 TD catches, and some flashy kick returns, Watkins has many Tiger fans drooling over his potential.

Fans25.com Coach of the Year


1. Brady Hoke - Michigan - 14 Fans25.com Points - (2 first, 4 second) - Hoke has revived Big Blue from its Rich-Rod induced coma and has the Wolverines in the Sugar Bowl after a 10-2 campaign. He'll be looking to give the Michigan faithful their first BCS win since the 2000 Orange Bowl in their first BCS trip since the 2007 Rose Bowl.
