Week Eight Predictions

The college football season is flying by as we are already past the halfway point of the season. The four teams to make the CFP will slowly but surely be discovered as we head down the home stretch. Here are my predictions for the games of week Eight.....

Virginia (4-2) at Duke (5-1) - 12:30 - ESPN3.com - Coming into 2014, David Cutcliffe for the Blue Devils was one of my favorite coaches out there while Mike London at UVA was one of my least favorite. Cutcliffe has done little to change that perception, but London has. He has stepped it up with a win over Louisville and a winning record overall. In this one, I go Duke at home but in a battle. Both teams are underrated due to the college football pageantry they lack, but both can play ball. Duke, 30-20.

#24 Clemson (4-2) at Boston College (4-2) - 3:30 - ESPNU - If you are a Tiger fan, which I happen to be, this game scares you to death. CU is without their starting QB as Deshaun Watson is out with a broken finger. BC, meanwhile, is strong as usual on the offensive line and on defense. With a win already over Southern Cal, the Eagles know how to get it done. I think Clemson is the better team and I will pick them, but I am not as confident in this pick as I would be with Watson. The Tiger defense can shut down the run, and that is why I go CU. Clemson, 24-17.

#21 Texas A&M (5-2) at #7 Alabama (5-1) - 3:30 - CBS - I only get one Upset Special a week in our forum contest, but I am taking a second one here as I see A&M going into Tuscaloosa and defeating Saban's Tide. The Aggies have weapons, but haven't had luck go their way in recent weeks. Alabama is strong, but they don't seem to have what they have had in year's past. I see this as a hard-fought game with the visitors pulling out an unlikely victory. Texas A&M, 30-20.

UCLA (4-2) at California (4-2) - 3:30 - ABC - I have to go with UCLA to bounce back here. Preseason I thought Brett Hundley and crew were legit national title contenders. But after a couple of bumps already, any hardware is now out of the question. Still, I think they are pretty good and should take down a Cal program that just cannot ever seem to put a big year together. Look for the Bruins to crack back into the Top 25 after this one. UCLA, 35-21.

#15 Oklahoma State (5-1) at #12 TCU (4-1) - 4:00 - FOX - Two coaches that I have a ton of respect for square off here as Cowboy Mike Gundy and Horned Frog Gary Patterson bang helmets in Fort Worth. The Frogs defeated Oklahoma so we know they are dangerous. Oklahoma State gave FSU all they wanted in their only loss so I know they are dangerous, as well. I am going to go with the visitors here. I enjoy watching the Cowboys play and see them with the W here. Oklahoma State, 33-26.

Tennessee (3-3) at #3 Ole Miss (6-0) - 7:00 -ESPN - Here is my Upset Special of the week. Ole Miss has had sunshine pumped up their butt all week, while UT - a school with top recruits and a solid tradition - comes into Oxford expected to get whipped by over 2 TDs. The Rebels have proved me wrong all season, and it may happen again come Saturday, but this game here seems to be the most attractive to me in our Upset Special contest in the forum. Tennessee, 27-20.

#19 Nebraska (5-1) at Northwestern (3-3) - 7:30 - Big Ten Network - Alright Huskers, after years of me bashing Bo Pelini and the averageness that he is, he can get his team up near the Top 15 and in good position in the Big Ten West. A rematch with Michigan State inthe B1G title game is very likely should Nebraska win this one. The West Division is wide open and the Huskers could take the drivers seat. Nebraska, 30-24.

Washington (5-1) at #9 Oregon (5-1) - 8:00 - FOX - The Ducks open up a can and make their case for the College Football playoff with a home dismantling of the Huskies. Oregon has all of their goals ahead of them still but must turn it on now down the stretch. I see this team really getting a big win here over a pretty good Husky team. QB Marcus Mariotta must protect the ball. Oregon, 38-17.

#5 Notre Dame (6-0) at #2 Florida State (6-0) - 8:00 - ABC - For the love of God, would somebody beat FSU and put them out of their misery?? Jeez, if I hear J****s W****n's name one more time I might barf. I don't like ND all that much, but I really have begun to hate FSU. So whoever loses this game will give me at least a small degree of satisfaction. Hopefully it is the 'Noles, but unfortunately I think they pull it out. Florida State, 30-23.
