Week Two Predictions

09.06.12 - Posted By: Brett Haynes - Greenville, SC

And just like that, not only is the season amongst us again, but we are now into the games of week two. A couple of SEC newcomer matchups highlight the slate this week as Georgia travels to Missouri while Florida travels to Texas A&M...I had a so-so score of 12-3 in week one of the Pick'em Contest, a week where 53 players equaled or bettered me. It will take a stronger performance this week if I am to start moving towards being in the group that will compete for this year's Pick'em Contest crown...

Here are my picks for week two:

#7 Georgia at Missouri, ESPN2, 7:45 - I see Mark Richt's boys hunkering down for a game that is desperately needed as the SEC welcomes Missouri into conference play. UGA fans are on the fence with Richt in year twelve, and a big road win over a good Tiger program would be just what the doctor ordered. That said, it will be tough. Missouri features junior QB James Franklin who is very talented, and more importantly, experienced. This has been a true top 25 program for several years now. Add to that a home crowd like Faurot Field has never seen.....

Show Me

After the most dramatic offseason in recent memory, the college football season returns.  Just like every year, most teams have high aspirations, though only two will ultimately have the honor of playing for the top spot.  As we survey the landscape of new conference line-ups, resurgences of old powers, and look for the needle in the haystack that is this year’s dark horse, I present to you a list of teams with many differences but one thing in common – something to prove.  For each team on this list, I want them to show me something, and prove once and for all they really belong in the upper echelon of college football.

2011 Preseason Top 25

08.21.11 - Posted By: Brett Haynes - Greenville, SC

Auburn will start the year on top as they are the defending champs. Just behind Auburn is their in-state rival, Alabama. LSU is also in the top five. In total, eight of the teams in my preseason top 25 reside in the Southeastern Conference. With the streak of national championships the SEC has going, it is hard not to pick them highly going into 2011...It is time for someone else to step up and take the crystal football! Who will it be?

1. Auburn Tigers - SEC West - Head Coach: Gene Chizik (22-5 at Auburn) - I start off every season by having the defending champion number one in my top 25. Until they lose, they are the champ. And it isn't like Auburn has a bunch of slouches on their 2011 version just because Cam Newton and Nick Fairley now play on Sunday. This school recruits in the top 10 annually, and new guys can't wait to show what they've got. Do not be the least bit surprised if Auburn challenges for the SEC West crown once again this season. Taking over for Newton is Barrett Trotter, a junior, who we know very little about. He has nine career passing attempts. But the Auburn

A Day to Remember!

11.27.10 - Posted By: Brett Haynes - Greenville, SC

The college football world is treated to a special day. It almost felt like New Year's Day Friday as I flipped channels watching multiple college football games. Early in the day, West Virginia announced that they were back in the BCS picture by whipping Pitt in the Big East. Midday we saw Nebraska beat Colorado to wrap up the Big 12 North. Also midday we saw Auburn come back from the dead to beat Alabama, thus staying alive for a national title. And last night, things really got crazy as Boise State lost for the first time all year, and Oregon needed a huge second half to beat Arizona at home....

UConn Opens Big East Door

11.12.10 - Posted By: Brett Haynes - Greenville, SC

The Big East is wide open after a UConn 30-28 victory over Pittsburgh brought the Panthers back to the pack. Now, with Big East teams having four or five league games remaining, and a only a one loss difference between every team in the conference, every single program has a chance to make a run at the Big East crown and a BCS berth. The Big East race got a whole lot more interesting after last night's game!

Pitt came in undefeated in league play at 3-0. As the preseason favorite and still unbeaten in conference, it looked like a Pitt win would send them well on their way to ...

Week Eleven Predictions

11.11.10 - Posted By: Brett Haynes - Greenville, SC

There are just three weeks left in the regular season Pick'em Contest for 2010. As of right now, clloyd is in the driver's seat at 76% for the season. But he has lots of folks trailing just behind. One of those folks is me, The Top Fan, at 74%. Here are my predictions for week eleven...

Pittsburgh at Connecticut - 7:30 - ESPN - I'm going to start things off with an upset of sorts. Pittsburgh has the better record in this game, but three losses concern me. Utah beat them, and I have a totally different view of the Utes following the TCU game. Miami stomped

The Top Fan's Top 25 - Week Ten

10.31.10 - Posted By: Brett Haynes - Greenville, SC

Oregon hung on to keep the top spot, but several other teams in the top 25 were not so lucky. Michigan State and Missouri really got spanked, opening the door for other teams to move up. Here is my top 25 as we head into the tenth week of the season...

1. Oregon (8-0) - The Ducks unleashed the offense once again, scoring 35 points in the middle part of the game on the way to the 52-35 win over USC....

Week Eight Predictions

10.21.10 - Posted By: Brett Haynes - Greenville, SC

Once again, we have college football tonight! The Oregon Ducks will put their #2 ranking on the line when unpredictable UCLA comes into town....I am still in the mix for the Pick'em Contest title, but I need a big week. I have lost a bunch of games the past few weeks, and need to get back to my dominating ways of the first few weeks if I am going to be a factor. Again this week there are many games that are very tough to pick. Can Nebraska bounce back? Can LSU keep winning in odd fashion? Can Oklahoma survive as the nation's top team? Can Iowa jump back into the national picture? We will soon find out - here are my picks for week eight!
